This is the first lava field we drove through in Iceland and it was stunning. I was so blown away by the beauty it held within all its stillness. When we were driving down the road I thought about where these rocks came from in the first place and how they have been overcome with moss and plant life over thousands of years. To some people these fields may look dead and lifeless, but the rocks nutrients have provided the perfect place for tiny, magnificent plants to grow. As you get closer to the rocks, you can see all of the life that has grown around them. It took my breath away. It reminded me that the most beauitful moments can happen in stillness. It made me appreciate the stillness in my life more; all of the little moments, all of the quiet moments. I need to appreciate those too. There was a magnificient, calming energy that floated around the lava fields and ever since i left, i've carried that energy with me.
